Mariana Assis Brito

Veterinary Surgeon

I’m Mariana! I’m 29 years old, a Taurus, and proudly from Porto, one of the most beautiful cities in Portugal! Being a vet has been my dream since I was a kid, and I’m one of those lucky (and maybe a bit stubborn) people who followed through with their childhood dream. I studied veterinary medicine at Porto University, and I’m so glad I did!

To widen my horizons and experience, I did an internship in Iceland through Erasmus in 2020. I loved it so much that I took my first vet job there and worked for about three and a half years! I worked in a small but busy clinic in Iceland where I handled consultations, blood work, x-rays, ultrasounds, and hospitalized patients. The Team was small, but we worked quite well as a team, and I've learned a lot from them. I also took solo emergency shifts, which taught me to work well under pressure. Surgery-wise, I’ve done spays, neuters, lumpectomies, bladder stone removals, trauma work, and dentistry. I’m eager to keep growing my surgical skills since it’s a part of vet medicine I’m very passionate about.

In my free time, I like to play tennis and padel tennis (I’m also open to try squash) and spending time with my cats, Óscar and Maria, which are my fury babies that I adopted in Iceland. I also like to go out and have some fun and get to know the city life! I really enjoy going for walks to discover the city’s secrets and the best stores for cutesy items, like candles or other small things for my home. I’m also a “plant collector”, back in Iceland I used to have around 100 indoor plants!
