Neutering

Neutering can have significant preventative health care benefits for pets. We recommend clients to spay non breeding female dogs, cats and rabbits to prevent unwanted pregnancy, womb infections, uterine and ovarian tumours and reduce the risk of mammary tumours. Neutering male cats helps reduce roaming and breeding related fighting (activities which put entire males at great risk of serious disease or injury). Male dogs that are not castrated are at risk of developing testicular cancer, prostate abnormalities and other hormonally driven anomalies such as anal adenomas. For some male rabbits neutering can reduce aggressive behaviour.

Parasite control

No one parasite control is effective against every parasite. At BVG our staff will be have to offer advice on the best combination of therapies for your pet. Most of the products we use are prescription only and therefore cannot be dispensed to clients not yet under our care. If you have not had time to register your pet or your pet has not been seen for 12 months we offer FREE flea and worming checks by appointment at all our branches Monday to Friday. In particular we would like to make our clients aware that round worm is transmissible from dogs to people and that the BSAVA currently recommend once monthly treatment to keep the risk to a minimum.
